Byxee helps cyclists avoid road hazards by scanning ahead and alerting possible dangers.

Other tools like Volvo’s Lifepaint, a highly reflective non permanent spray illuminates cyclists clothing and helmets, for safer night time cycling. Also, WeCycle is a tracking device that captures cycling paths to create heat maps for city planners.

Byxee is a tracking video system that spots potholes, gratings, bumps and tarmac patches up to 80 feet away. The system works by analyzing shadows and contrasts created by road hazards. When a hazard is detected a warning beep alerts the cyclist. Byxee also detects moving obstacles like animals, pedestrians and moving car doors.

Byxee is currently crowdfunding on Indiegogo, where pledgers can pre-order the device for $139 dollars. Byxee will be available in February 2016.
