Hour Detroit Magazine Best Dressed Celebration 2011

On Wednesday night, 11.16.2011, I had the privilege of attending the Hour Magazine Best Dressed Celebration, at ArtVan Furniture Store on North Woodward in Royal Oak, MI.  The event benefited “Jackets for Jobs Inc.,” an organization supplying business attire to disadvantaged women, for more than a decade.  Mrs. Kiko Davis, a 2008 best dressed honoree, was so kind to give me her tickets and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to have attended one of this season’s hottest events.

The festivities took place on the second floor, with several food stations offering delicious hors d’oeuvres, pastries, cheeses and other delicacies. Drinks were varied and plentiful, we eagerly indulged in much of the sumptuous fare.  I took a friend and we had a wonderful time noshing and mingling with Metro-Detroit’s fun and fashionable people.  We were pleased to have a great conversation with Hour Detroit Magazine’s Editor Rebecca Powers, who was very welcoming and amiable. We walked the floor people watching, tasting food, and talking with our good friend Amp Fiddler (funk/techno/underground music artist), his girlfriend and local fashion model Tombe, Chuck Bennett and others.

Later we were treated to a fabulous fall/winter fashion show by Neiman Marcus and the presentation of the 2011 best dressed honorees.  Amp Fiddler made the cover of the Best-Dressed issue and was first up in the feature article. He surprised the crowd by appearing on the runway in a man-skirt, of course he caused an up-roar funk-walkin’ his way down the catwalk. Clearly, he’s not afraid of taking risks and pushing the so-called limits of men’s fashion.  Amp has always been a fashion trendsetter with a global mindset and persona.

After the show we had delicious rum gelato topped with bananas foster from the Vince and Joe’s Market table.  After dessert, we settled in one of many beautiful furniture vignettes sipping champagne and people watching, until we took leave.  We had a wonderful time and I’d like to give a special thanks to Kiko Davis for hookin’ a sista up!

Yes, thank that sista for hookin’ you up! I love the photos, you as always look dazzling. I know in your profile you talk about being a fan of amp fiddler. A man-skirt, hmmm, I’ma have to think about that one.

Hey Chocolate! The party was fun and fabulous and we sipped champagne all night! Thanks for the compliment, for some odd reason I dressed down that night. I wore a DKNY cowlneck sweater with a hankerchief hemline (four big points at the bottom) and a pair of gray striped Armani skinny pants with my black Steve Madden, over the knee platform boots. Maybe, I’m just getting very casual as time goes on. Anyway, I’m a big fan of Amp’s music, we’ve been friends for a long, long time and I have great respect for his talent. I’m not sure why he broke out with the skirt that night, but he’s known for his fashion forward style and for not following rules.

  2. It seems like you had a blast. We need something like this in Boston.
PS- You were looking good girl 🙂

We really did! Hour magazine tends to give big parties for their “Best Of” issues that are always fabulous. I loved that there were people of all ages, all races and walks of life. There was fabulous fashion, food and fun for all and we got goodie bags at the end….what a party!! Thanks for the compliment, it was a last minute thing, but I tried to pull it together the best I could and still be comfortable.

  3. What a Fabulous looking party!! BTW, you are gorgeous!
