Do you think the outfit is appropriate? (for the age group to purchase the doll) – The coat and accessories are appropriate –

This is actually an adult collector doll.  It is very expensive and not meant for child’s play. Any child who receives this as a toy or a collectors item should be made to understand that the outfit fully reflects the person it depicts and not what young girls should emulate.  I agree, the outfit is not appropriate for young girls to play with….the whole idea (luxe life, materialism, self indulgence) is not appropriate for young children.
I doubt very seriously that Mattel will advertise this doll to young children as a toy on the kids networks or during Saturday morning programming on network tv.  But, you never know…the world is fast changing.

I can already see some PETA activists raising an uproar over the coat!At least Mattel is showcasing other ethnicities.

Chocolate: Tee hee…I wouldn’t be surprised if PETA made a Kimora effigy of the doll and protested in front of the Baby Phat offices.   Kimora is the first bi-racial Barbie doll for Mattel, I think they are finally getting with the program (the multi-cultural Bratz collection is kicking them in the butt as top sellers over the past five-7 years).
