Ventarron Ancient Peruvian Temple

4,000 Year Old Temple Unearthed In Peru

Ventarron 3

A 4,000-year-old temple with many murals has been unearthed on the northern coast of Peru, at Ventarron and is likely one of the oldest finds in Peru. Peruvian archaeologist Walter Alva, described the temple as having a staircase leading to an altar, likely used for fire worship. The temple is situated in the Lambayeque valley, 472 miles from Lima. The location is very near an ancient Sipan complex that Alva unearthed in the 1980’s. Alva also said, “The temple is about 4,000 years old and what’s surprising are the construction methods, the architectural design and most of all the existence of murals.”

Discoveries at Sipan, an administrative and religious center of the Moche culture, include a gold-filled tomb built 1,700 years ago. Another Peruvian treasure is the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Until the arrival of the Spanish in the 1500’s, the Incas ruled a large empire for several centuries stretching across Colombia into Ecuador. Alva indicated that, “The discovery of this temple reveals evidence suggesting the region of Lambayeque was one of great cultural exchange between the Pacific coast and the whole of Peru.”

I saw this on the news earlier today.  It was interesting.  It makes me think about when I was studying Ancient egyptian history  there was something said that some of the people from egypt made a trek by boat over into South America. It is the reason why some of the structures found in South America look very similar to the structures found in Egypt.  I think that this finding is just the tip of the iceberg.  I love reading about ancient history, there is so much out there to be found and uncovered, don’t you think?
